Tilney - Belle

Crawfordsville Daily Journal, March 3, 1895

This morning at her residence on W. Wabash Ave, occurred the death of Belle, wife of Dr. Tilney. After a lingering illness from typhoid fever, from which she partially recovered, peritonitis, complicated with heart disease set in to which she succumbed. she was 43 years old. The following beautiful poem by Thomas Hood, accurately describes the closing scenes: The Death Bed

We watched her breathing throughout he night, her breathing, soft and low, and in her breast the wave of life, kept heaving to and fro. So silently we seemed to speak, so slowly moved about, As we had lent her half our powers, to eke her living out. Our weary hopes belled our fears, Our fears our hopes belled, we we thought her dying, when she slept, and sleeping when she died. For when the mourn came down and sad, and chill with early showers, her quiet eyelids closed; she had another morn than ours." Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. Fuson.

Death of Mrs. Belle TILNEY
This morning at her residence on west Wabash avenue occurred the death of Belle, wife of Dr. Tilney. After a lingering illness from typhoid fever, from which she partially recovered, peritonitis, complicated with heart disease set in, to which she succumbed. She was 43 years old. The following beautiful poem by Thomas Hood, accurately describes the closing scenes:

THE DEATH BED

We watched her breathing through the night
Her breathing, soft and low

And in her breath the wave of life,
Kept heaving to and fro.
So silently we seemed to speak,
So slowly moved about.
As we had lent out half our powers
To eke her living out.
Our weary hopes belied our fears,
Our fears our hopes belied;
We thought her dying when she slept
And sleeping when she died
For when the morn came down and sad,
And chill with early showers.
Her quiet eyelids closed; she had
Another morn than ours

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church tomorrow (Saturday)
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Fuson.
