J. Walter Thompson, 80-year-old retired farmer, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home, 108 Morgan St., Friday night. A son of Clint and Anna Shanklin Thompson, he was born Dec. 29, 1883, northwest of Yountsville. He was married in August 1906 to Ida M. Galloway, who survives. Mr. Thompson attended the Yountsville School and was graduated from Crawfordsville High School. He taught for a number of years at Youtsville, Wesley and Alamo, then farmed for many years west of Crawfordsville. For 18 years he was a district director of the Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and OES at Alamo. Surviving besides the wife are two sons, Harry and Robert, and two daughters, Mrs. Clifford Thomas and Mrs. Robert Merrell, all of in and near Crawfordsville; a brother, Frank G. Thompson of Bluffton; a sister Mrs. Helen Miller of Franklin, and 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Thompson in death were a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Himes, and a son, Arthur Thompson. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Monday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Wesley Cemetery. – jlr

Funeral services for J. Walter Thompson were held Monday afternoon in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Servies and Rev. Guy Tremaine officiating. Burial was in Wesley Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with the floral tributes were Merle Himes; Dave Thompson; Paul Egli; Merle Venis; Ralph Thompson; Harry Fink; Ross Elliott and David Johnson. Selections were played on the organ by Mrs. Merle Himes. Masonic services were given at the grave by Robert Songer and Lincoln Lankford of the Alamo Lodge of which the deceased was a member. – kbz
