Thompson - George - 1918

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, December 14, 1918

In loving remembrance of George Thompson, who died one year ago today, December 12, 1918. The month of December is here again to me the saddest of the year. Sad was the hour and fatal day when my husband went away, Gone, dear husband! How I miss your smiling face. We miss you and mourn you in silence unseen and dwell on the memories of days that have been, often, as we stand in silence to your grave. Can it really be true that your are gone? We think it must be true you will not come back to us but we are coming home to you. Sadly missed by, your wife and children. Mrs. George Thompson In remembrance of my father, George Thompson, who died December 12, 1918: and left mother with seven children. She put us in the Otterbein Home, which is a U. B. Church home. Oh! We do not know what our father and mother are to us until they are gone. I have a good home. They try to take the place of father and mother here. The matron of the home is Mrs. King. She is so good to us. But father’s step we shall never never hear and father’s kiss we shall never receive again but we shall all remember him. I thank God for our home. There are children here without father or mother. If I have no father living I have a good mother and a good home. We should all live so good. Lucille Thompson Otterbein Home Lebanon, Ohio – jlr
