Passed to the higher life from the home of her son, Oscar D. Thomas, in Linden, Indiana, Mrs. Matilda A. Thomas, at 1:30 p. m. April 16. 1899. Mrs. Thomas was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, April 5, 1805. She had lived to the ripe old age of ninety-four years, her last birthday being last Saturday, April 15, 1899, She came to Indiana with some friends who were moving west and settled in Richmond, Ind. When she was about twenty-eight years old she was married to Ziba Thomas, father of Wm. C., Jesse F., and Oscar D. Thomas. She moved with her husband and family to Darlington, Montgomery county, Ind., in the year 1849, in which county she has lived ever since with the exception of two years at Monon, Ind., and a year or two in Tippecanoe, county, Ind. Mrs. Thomas was the mother of two sons, Jessie F. and Oscar D. Thomas, both of whom lived to manhood. Jesse F. Thomas passed to the other life in the year 1880. Mrs. Thomas connected herself with the M. E church in early life and remained a faithful member ever since. Although old and feeble yet her demise, we think, was hasted by a fall she sustained some weeks ago. To me she was always a good mother—having lost my mother when only eighteen months old I knew no other—and while we realize that it is the immutable law of nature that all living creatures must submit to the change called death, yet it is with sorrow that we have to know that our mother ha made the change. And yet when we think we should not grieve for we know that she still lives, and that the change made by her is for her betterment.  Wm. C. Thomas - thanks to Kim H
