Source: Saturday Evening Journal, December 5, 1885

On Tuesday morning Dr. W.H. Hurt, of Waynetown, received a dispatch that his brother-in-law James Thomas, had been murdered in New Mexico. Mr. Thomas was the driver of a notion wagon and a week or two before, his body was found, which was on the 26th of last month, he had started out on one of his trips in company with another man. This man had evidently committed the murder as the horses, wagon and entire stock were missing and no traces could be found, Mr. Thomas was formerly a resident of this county and his mother now lives at Pleasant Hill. The Doctor has written to New Mexico for fuller particulars. - thanks to Kim H
