Anson S. Thomas, 84, a retired director of tax and legislature for the Indiana Farm Bureau died Monday in Culver Hospital. Mr. Thomas continued to serve as a consultant on tax matters to the Farm Bureau after his retirement and was chairman of the Indiana Tax Study Committee and the Indiana Stream Pollution Control Board. He was a member of the commission on tax and finance policy of the Indiana Water Resource Study and Indiana Flood Control and Water Resource Commission of Soil Conservation. He was also a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau and lifelong member of Montgomery County Hisotircal Society. He was named Sagamore of the Wabash by former Gov. Matthew Welch and awarded a certificate of distinction by the Purdue University Agriculture Alumni Association. Mr. Thomas was a member of Liberty Chapel Church. He was born August 1, 1889 the son of George A. and Fanny Driver Thomas and was married to Jennie Deter Feb 8, 1911 at New Richmond. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. John (Helen) Ernestes of Indianapolis; a son, Warren A. of Colfax; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. He was preceded in death by a daughter and two grandsons. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Burkhart Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Schenck officiating. Burial in Wesley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday. - kbz
