NEW RICHMOND — Richard C. Thayer, 54, Rt. 1, New Richmond, a self-employed trucker, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette at 7.30 a.m. Tuesday. He had been ill the past 10 months and had been hospitalized two weeks. Mr. Thayer was a member of the New Richmond Christian Church, Linden Masonic Lodge 697 and OES Chapter 244. He was graduated from Romney High School. Born Feb. 16, 1917, near Linden, he was a son of Otis and Leona Bell Thayer. He was married to Madge McGuire April 26, 1942. She survives. Also surviving are his mother; three sons, Richard of Bloomington, and Roger and Jeffrey at home; three daughters, Sue, Carol and Cindy, all at home; seven brothers, Otis of Crawfordsville, Kenneth and Calvin of Lafayette, Robert of New Richmond, Donald of Romney, David of Dayton, Ind., and John of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers. Services for Mr. Thayer will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Helms Funeral Home in Linden. Rev Richard Winson will officiate and burial will be in New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
