NEW RICHMOND — Otis Lee Thayer, 78, prominent retired farmer, died at his home here at 4:30 a.m. Friday after an illness of a month. Mr. Thayer had lived in New Richmond four years but prior to that time had farmed for 42 years in Jackson Township, Tippecanoe County on Rt. 1, Romney. Born May 16, 1889, he was the son of Caleb and Evaline Miller Thayer. He was married March 18, 1915, to Lona Bell, who survives. He was educated in the Jackson Township schools and was a member of the Romney Methodist Church. Other survivors include eight sons, Otis V. Thayer, of Crawfordsville, Montgomery County Assessor, Richard C. Thayer and Robert M. Thayer of New Richmond; Kenneth L. Thayer and Calvin M. Thayer of Lafayette, Donald E. Thayer of Romney, David E. Thayer of Dayton, Ind., and John L. Thayer of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Roy Weaver of Mooresville; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Claude Thayer, and a number of nieces and nephews. A sister and six brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Romney Methodist Church in charge of Rev. Rick Reahard of New Richmond and Rev. Jack Williams of Stockwell. The body will lie in state at the church for an hour preceding the rites. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Helms Funeral Chapel in Linden.
