NEW RICHMOND -- Lona C. Thayer, 81, of New Richmond, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday in Turtle Creek Nursing Home at Lafayette. She had been a patient since 1975 and in failing health several months. Mrs Thayer was a member of the New Richmond Methodist Church. She and her husband farmed in the Linden and Romney area for 40 years. After retirement, they moved to New Richmond. Born May 27, 1896, in Jackson Township, Tippecanoe County, she was a daughter of John and Lydia Vincent Bell. She married Otis L. Thayer at Crawfordsville on March 3, 1915. He died in 1969. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Weaver of Mooresville; seven sons, Otis, the Montgomery County assessor, of Crawfordsville; Robert M., Montgomery County Commissioner, of New Richmond; Kenneth L., Lafayette City Judge; Donald E., former trustee, of Romney; Calvin M. of Lafayette; David E. of Dayton; and John L. of Miami Lakes, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday in Helms & Hahn Funeral Home at Linden with the Rev. Lew Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
