John Harden Terry, 87 years old, last surviving Civil war veteran in Clark township, died last night of his home near Ladoga. He was born November 22 1849, in Montgomery county, Virginia. Mr. Terry was the son of Thomas and Susan Terry and had been a resident of this community many years. He was united in marriage May 17, 1876, to Mary Jane Turner, also a native of Montgomery county, Virginia. Mr. Terry's death occurred at 10:30 o'clock Friday night at the family home at the south edge of Ladoga. He had been ill the past two years and death was caused by the infirmities of age. Mr. Terry served with the Confederate army during the conflict between the states. While a resident of this community he operated a blacksmith shop. Surviving are the widow, and eight children, Mrs. Pearl Bymaster, Mrs. Nellie Clark, Mrs. Grace Mangus, and Paul Terry all of Ladoga; Mrs. Anna Baumhofer, Mrs. Fred Van Devanter, and John Terry all of Indianapolis, and Harien Terry of Logansport. Funeral services for Mr. Terry were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Gottachall Funeral Home in charge of Rev. A.W. Roshrig, pastor of the Methodist Church. Two songs were sung, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Sweet Bye and Bye" by Ava and Eva Terry of Logansport, accompanied by Juanita Berryman. The beautiful tribute of flowers were carried by Mrs. Janet Kern, Elizabeth, Sarah and Ava Mangus, Nancy Baumhofer, Violet Terry, Jane Louise Mangus, Helen Miller and Mary Lou Clark. Pall bearers were Clifford Terry, Harden Terry, Gerald Bymaster, Richard Bymaster, Orville Clark and Cedric Mangus. Interment was made in Ladoga cemetery.
