Edgar F. Taylor, 85, retired banker died Sunday morning (Oct 21) at his home, 418 W Wabash Ave. He had been seriously ill since he fractured a hip in a fall a few weeks ago. Mr. Taylor was employed by the american Express Co. at Richmond and in 1907 was transferred here by the firm. A year later he became associated with the State Bank, which later merged with Elston Bank. He retired in 1955 as assistant casher at the bank. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and for a number of years was treasurer of the church and member of its board. He was a former member of the Crawfordsville Country Club and Montgomery County Bankers Association. He also was an avid folfer. Born July 17, 1877 at Zanesville, Ohio he was a son of Enos and Leora Mitchell Taylor. He was married Sept 25, 1907 at Richmond to Mary Friendley. She died July 27, 1942. Surviving are a son, Robert S. Taylor of Alexandria, VA; 3 daughters, Miss Katherine Taylor who made her home with her father and is a teacher at Hoover Grade School. Miss Mary Taylor of White Plains, NY and Mrs. Thomas P. Murphy of Silver Spring, MD a grandson, Michael Taylor of Alexandria VA and a granddaughter, Miss Ingrid Taylor of Dallas, Tex. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church with Father Roy Turner in charge. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at Bright's Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Tuesday.- kbz
