Taylor - Charles - 1892

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Friday, 18 November 1892

Advance, Nov. 18—Tuesday night the Democracy in this end of the county met here to celebrate the result of the recent election. Whiskey was freely imbibed by several of our sports and as usual a fight was thought just the thing. Charles Taylor, of New Ross, was over and as soon as the boys found him they wanted to mutilate him. Charley was tanning them as fast as they came to him until the Davis gang came up. He fairly powdered James, when the old man piled on and held Taylor while Jack struck him three blows over the head with a 2x4 scantling. Charley looked like a bloody butcher and blood was gushing from his head in torrents. He was picked up unconscious and taken to the home of Charley Sparks, just south of here, and medical aid summoned, but of no avail. He is still unconscious and is now in a critical condition.
