Tapp - John

A messenger from Ladoga arrived in the city this morning and immediately returned with acting Coroner Coppage who should render a verdict as to the cause of the death of John Tapp. Mr. Tapp was a well known farmer of over fifty years, who resided with his family about two miles southwest of Ladoga. He had been in poor health for some time and grown quite despondent. This morning his daughter brought his breakfast into the room, and was preparing to wait on him as usual, when he told her to return to her own breakfast and he would serve himself. She did so, and a few moments afterward the family was started by a loud report of a shot gun. Hastening to Mr. Tapp’s room they found his body on the floor with a gaping hole in his left breast, while his life blood formed a ghastly pool upon the floor. He was quite dead, and had evidently expired in an instant. He had taken the shot gun which stood in the corner of the room and placed it against his breast, and then reaching down with his cane, touched it off. He leaves a wife and several children, most of whom are married.
