New Ross -- Silas Creed Thompson, 65 - year - old noted horseman died at 7 p.m.
Tuesday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He had been in failing
health 19 months. Mr. Thompson was most noted as the owner of the famous
pacer, Jimmy Creed, who at one time held 7 world's records and raced
from coast to coast. He also bred and raced many other famous horses.
Born July 31, 1899 in Boone County, he wa a son of WIlliam and Margaret
Stewart Thompson. He was married Feb 17, 1921 to Dell Byers at
Crawfordsville. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of New Ross HS and attended
Wabash College. He was a membr of the Whitesville Christian Church,
Brookside Masonic Temple No. 729 at Indianapolis and Athens Chapter, OES
at Crawfordsville. He also was a charter member of American Legion Post
427 here. Survivors include the widow; two sisters, Mrs. Ray A. Clark
and Mrs. Lester Rhoads both of Indianapolis and a number of nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Funeral
services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in
Jamestown with Rev. Albert V. Amos officiating. Interment will be in Oak
Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Friends may pay their respects at the
funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will also be a Maosnic
