Walter THOMPSON, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Thompson living SW of Crawfordsville on State Rd 47 near the Indian Creek Bridge was killed instantly about 2:15 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when struck by an automobile driven by Eddy Paul Deck, son of Marion Deck, living 3 miles South of Crawfordsville. The accident occurred in front of the Thompson boy's home as he, together with his two brothers and a neighbor boy were crossing the road with fishing lines and poles to go fishing in the creek nearby. The Deck boy was driving north trailing a car being driven by his father. The Thompson boy's brothers called to him to "watch out," as he started across the road between the two cars. Their warning was too late. When hit by the car the Thompson lad was knocked over, his head striking the pavement. It is thought also that the Deck car ran over his body. Walter Lewis Thompson was born in this county July 17, 1931 the son of Lloyd and Margaret HAMM Thompson. He attended the New Market school and would have entered the 7th grade next month. Funeral services were held at the Browns Valley Christian Church on Friday. - transcribed by kbz
