The death of Rev. R.D. Thomas in the Methodist Hospital at
Indianapolis on Thursday evening, last, brought a pang to many
hearts in Waveland and Brown Township. His two years ministry
here and two at Browns Valley endeared him to everyone with whom
he came in contact. He was a forceful speaker and an
indefatigable worker in his chosen field; it was the innate
friendliness of the man which gave him his greatest influence. He
leaves a wife and two sons. - kbz

(Browns Valley News) -- Almost every member of the Christian Church attended the
funeral of their pastor, Rev. R.D. Thomas on Sunday a week ago at
Danville, whose death made sad the heart of man, woman and child
in the community who deeply deplore his passing away, as he was
universally loved for his friendliness and pleasant personality.
Pallbearers were selected by Mrs. Thomas as follows: Ephie and
Lonnie Gooding, Sam Grimes, Roy Wilson, Frank Hester and John
Foster. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and were
carried by men; a quartet composed of Paul Hester, Walter Penn,
Walter and Harold Taylor sang. In the Sweet Bye and Bye, The City
Four Square and Its Well with my Soul, accompanied by Mrs. Dewey
Goff pianist of the local Church of which he was the presiding
minister. Whose sunny smile and cheerful disposition is sorely
missed in our midst. The vast number of people which was
estimated at 2,000 who attended the last sad rites was evidence
of the love and respect for him. His mother, wife and two sons
have the deepest and sincerest sympathy of a legion of friends.
Brother Thomas was 44 years and 3 months of age. All that was
mortal of our beloved pastor was laid to rest in the Danville
Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
