Swoverland - Lester

Ladoga - Lester A. Swoverland, 67, a farmer near here for since 1940, died Wednesday morning at a nursing facility in Ft Wayne. He had resided there for the past week and had been in failing health since April. He was a member of First Christian Church in New Ross and was active in Boy Scouts, 4-H, Red Cross and PTA. Mr. Swoverland had served as an interim minister at several churches in the area. He had attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He was born December 18, 1912 at Plymouth a son of Leonard and Lizzie Swoverland. He was married Dec 25, 1938 to Betty Bradley at Ladoga. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Lewis of LaPorte; a daughter, Mrs. James (Sallie) Pennington of Ft. Wayne; three sisters, Mae Brown of Gary, Lulu Butterfield of Dixon, Ill; and Laurence Kerr of Adriane, Mich; two brothers, Leonard of Tulsa and Orville of Chesterton; and four grandchildren. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday in Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Harry Hybarger, assisted by the Rev. George Markey, officiating. Burial will be in New Ross Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. - typed by kbz
