Olin Swinney, 64, a former teacher and principal at Ladoga and Darlington, died 1:55 a.m. today in Culver Hospital. Mr. Swinney had been a teacher, principal and superintendent at several schools in Indiana and retired in 1972. He was superintendent of Warren Central Consolidated Schools at the time of his retirement. He was an organizer of the Montgomery County Chapter of Retired Teachers Association and served as the first president of the local chapter. Mr. Swinney was a member of the Crawfordsville Eastern Star and Masonic lodges. He served as the past district organizer and associate guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters and was co-organizer of Ladoga Chapter of the Eastern Star. Mr. Swinney was a charter member of the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church at Carmel, a deacon of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, Phi Delta Kappa fraternity at Purdue University, Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity at Indiana State University and Alpha Sigma Phi. He had served on several state and national committees for education. He had been a past board member of the Indiana State University Alumni Board of Trustees. Mr. Swinney was a former member of the Ladoga Lions Club. He was a 1928 graduate of Darlington High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Indiana State University and received his master's degree after study at Purdue and Indiana universities. He was born in Montgomery County on June 6, 1909, a son of Winiford B. and Ida Poynter Swinney. He was married to Gail Crow in 1934. Surviving are the widow; a son, David of St. Louis; a daughter, Joan Cook of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and half-brother, Forrest Swinney of Indianapolis; and a half-sister, Anna Thompson Maxwell of Crawfordsville. A sister, Minnie, is deceased. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday
