Ralph W. Swearingen, 74, Montgomery County native and longtime resident of Crawfordsville died suddenly Thursday morning at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla. Relatives in Crawfordsville were notified at noon of his death. Mr. Swearingen was born in Montgomery County June 29, 1890, the son of Albert and Orpha Edwards Swearingen. He was a graduate of Crawfordsville HS. He spent his life in Crawfordsville until about 10 years ago when he retired from his interior decorating business and moved to St. Petersburg. A WWI veteran, Mr. Swearingen was a 45-year-member of Byron Cox Post of the American Legion. Survivors include a number of cousins in the Montgomery County area. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Monday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. John Servies will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Swearingen had asked that in lieu of flowers at his services donations be made to the Crawfordsville Sunshine Society. - kbz
