James T. SWEARINGEN a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a citizen of Crawfordsville for the past 15 years died at his home, 500 S. Washington Street on Saturday morning at 9:15 o’clock following an illness of one year. He had been seriously ill for two weeks. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. Mr. Swearingen was born in Montgomery County on November 17, 1856, a son of James G. and Mary Herron Swearingen. On Feb 22, 1883 he united in marriage to Miss Lida C. Finch. While not a member of any church or fraternal organization, he was always regarded as a highly religious man. The greater part of his life was devoted to farming. He was a lifelong and prominent member of the Democratic party. Survivors are his widow, one daughter, Miss Mary Swearingen at home; one sister, Mrs. Joseph Busenbark, residing one mile SW of this city. A son, Homer, preceded his father in death 5 years ago at El Paso, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 and will be in charge of Dr. WA Millis, president emeritus of Hanover College, assisted by Rev. MV Oggel, the pastor of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place in the family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery - kbz
