Swank - William Jefferson

One of the county's oldest residents, William Jefferson Swank, age 91, died at the home of a son-in-law, Everett Mason, northeast of Manchester Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Swank is survived by 99 living descendants. He had been ill for several months but was seriously sick only for the past week. Born August 5, 1858 at Newtown, Mr. Swank was the son of Joseph and Hattie Stephens Swank. He was married at Elmdale on March 2, 1881. His wife, Mrs. Abbie J. Swank preceded him in death in 1928. Mr. Swank was a farmer in the Elmdale neighborhood most of his life. He was a member of the Newtown Baptist Church. The survivors include four sons: Clyde and James both of Crawfordsville and Ben and Elmer both of Yountsville; a daughter, Mrs. Lul Mason; 91 grandchildren and great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at Proffitt & Sons Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Waynetown cemetery.
