Leslie Swanay, 68, a veteran of WWI died Wednesday evening, Feb 12 in the Soldiers Home, Lafayette where he had been a patient since 1955. Mr. Swanay was born Oct 10, 1869 son of William H. and Eliza Rouse Swanay of Alden, Iowa. He had spent the last 15 years in Waveland where he made his home with his brother and wife, Mr. OG Swanay. Since the illness and death of his brother 3 years ago, he has been a member of the Soldiers Home. Surviving are 3 sisters Mrs. Cora Allen of Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Luell Warne of Barnard, SD; Mrs. Blanche Adams of Long Beach, Calif; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Swanay and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home in Waveland Friday with the Rev. EA Gillum, the Chaplain of the Indiana State Soldiers Home officiating. Pallbearers were Ed Fowler, John Cheatham, Tom Durham, Bill Patterson, Bob Patterson and Dick Evans. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the Waveland and Crawfordsville American Legion Posts. Burial was in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Waveland. - kbz
