Sutton - Shelby

Shelby D. Sutton, formerly of Waveland but a resident of Indianapolis for the last five years, was the son of Justus and Lucinda Ware Sutton, b. Jan 20, 1852, near Parkeville, Ind and departed this life March 12, 1919, leaving a wife and six children: Mrs. Maude Scott of Lebanon; Mable A and Claude Earl of Montana; Dolly Nadine, Zouri Mell and Opal and three grandchildren, Kenneth, Mary and Dorothy Scott. Also two sisters, Mrs. JC Hocker and Mrs. Clay Reddish and one brother, TA Sutton to mourn an irreparable loss, for he was a most examplary young man, a kind and considerate husband and father whom God has called higher to perfect those good and noble qualities of heart and mind, which are far greater than riches. He was united in marr. to Mary S. Mottern, Oct 1, 1879. Having spent 12 years in the profession of teaching, he turned his attention to farming after his father's death, afterward moving to Waveland for the benefit of High School, thence to Bloomington for a college educ. for the children, finally locating in Indianapolis for their future home. Although seemingly strong, he was afflicted with a cancerous growth of the stomach. His death was hastened by influenza, despite the skill of physicians. His sufferings were borne with great fortitutde, characteristic of his kind and gentle disposition of his nature. Fun. serv. were conducted at the home of Rev. JO Odell of the 2nd Presb.
