Darlington, October 23, - Elder Jonas F. Sutton of Paris, MO., a former resident of this county, who resided south east of here, died suddenly Sunday night about eleven at the home of his brother-in-law, Frank Buchanan, two miles south of here, where he had come with his wife on a visit Saturday night. His death was due to heart disease and stomach trouble. He retired to bed after eating a hearty supper at about half past eight and was soon seized with the attack which ended his life. A doctor was hastily summoned, but could do nothing to prevent the work of the grim reaper. The deceased came here from Williamsport, where he had been the guest of his brother, John W. Sutton. Mr. Sutton was born in Miami county, Ohio, on June 1, 1837 and was therefore 74 years, 4 months and 22 days old. He was the son of David and Lucinda Sutton, two of the staunch and highly respected pioneers of this county, who came here from Ohio on October 10, 1850, and settled seven miles east of this city, near Shannondale. The subject of this obituary came with them. After he grew to manhood he was united in marriage on November 26, 1863, to Miss Louisa Morris, daughter of Owen Morris, who resided in the same neighborhood. Thirty-nine years ago they moved to Paris, Mo., where they have since resided. The deceased was a leading elder in the Primitive Baptist Church of that part of Missouri and had charge of four churches one in Paris and the others in nearby places. He leaves behind his widow and one daughter, Mrs. W.W. Snell, of four miles south of Paris, Mo., and one grandson, four brothers, John W. Sutton, aged 77 years of Williamsport; Francis Marion Sutton, of Toronto, Kan.; Thomas W. Sutton of Crawfordsville; David B. Sutton, of Paris, Mo.; two sisters living, Mrs. Letitia W. Jones of Kinderhook, Ill., and Mrs. Catherine M. Overstreet of Spokane, Wash. Two sisters, Miss Martha E. Sutton and Mrs. Sarah A. Caster, first wife of Abe Caster, of near Shannondale, are dead. The body will be taken back to Paris for burial. The funeral party will leave here on Tuesday morning. After the deceased was stricken he did not rally until the end. Many of the older citizens of the east part of the county will remember Mr. Sutton well
