Charles Sutger attempted suicide by taking morphine Saturday afternoon. He lingered until 5 o'clock on Monday evening. As near as can be learned, he took the poison about 3 o'clock, having first gone into the haymow of his barn in Stringtown. He was found at 5 and vigorous measures taken tow ard off the effects of the drug but without success. He was buried at Mt. Moriah cemetery, Tuesday afternoon after funeral services conducted by Rev. CG Airhart. Besides relatives the following Waveland people attended the funeral: AJ Wolfe and wife; Robert Burford and wife; WO Burford and wife; SN Jarvis and daughters; Mrs. Isaac Ritter; Mrs. Susan Swisher and JH Canine. Mr. Sutger was born in Holland 67 years ago. He came to this country when a boy and lived for a few years on a farm near Boonville in Warrick County with William Johnson. He came to this section on foot and worked on John Goben's place east of town. He was twice married, his second wife surviving him. He has a daughter near Muskegon and another near Chicago, neither of whom could be reached in time for the funeral. He has always been a hardworking man, but became involved in debt. He had a large lot of potatoes on which he depended to pull him out. These he shipped to Terre Haute and struck a poor market. For some time he had been talking of suicide and when he heard of George Seybold's death, he said he was going the same way. His greatest fault was that he sometimes drank too much. His death is much regretted as he was well liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the Baptist congregation of Mt. Moriah. -- kbz

Saturday evening at Waveland Charles Sutger, the town market gardener, attempted suicide by swallowing morphine. He was still unconscious on Monday, although the doctors had hope of saving his life. He is a German and has lived with his wife some years in Waveland. He had always been highly esteemed there and his attempt was a great surprise.

Charley Sutger committed suicide Saturday afternoon by taking morphine. He took what looked to be about forty grains. As near as could be ascertained he took the doses at intervals during the day, finishing about 3 p.m. He was found about 5 o’clock Monday evening in his hay mow. The physicians worked with him until Monday at 4 (*?) p.m. when he died. The interment took place Tuesday at Union Cemetery. Despondency over financial matters is supposed to have been the cause.
