Surber - Ethan "Calvin"

Calvin Surber, 54, resident of this city for 28 years, expired following a 3-weeks illness at 8:15 o'clock Wednesday night at Culver Hospital. His death was attricuted to a complication of diseases. Mr. Surber, well known in local building circles, was born June 7, 1882 in Indiana, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Surber. He married Catherine Cronin Dec 31, 1907. His wife died Nov 23, 1934. The deceased was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and for 10 years was president of the local brick mason's and plasters' union. Surviving are one son, Robert L. Surber, Crawfordsville; five daughters, Mrs. William Scott; Jane Ella Surber; Clara Mae Surber; Betty Carolyn Surber and Minnie Louise Surber, all of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Kirt Watson, Crawfordsville and Mrs. John Butts, Armstrong, Ill; a brother, Hobert Surber, Crawfordsville and 3 grandchildren. The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. William Scott, 212 Spring Street, Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard's Church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. Frelhammer in charge. Burial will be in the family lot at the Masonic Cemetery. Members of the Holy Name Society, to which Mr. Surber belonged, are asked to meet at the Scott home Friday night for the recitation of the Rosary.
