LINDEN -- Ernest B. Sturm, 69, who was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad for 48 years, died suddenly at his home here Thursday night. Mr. Sturm retired four years ago after many years of service as station agent for the railroad. Born Nov. 11, 1894, at Eckerty, Ind., he was the son of Hazen and Emma Brown Sturm. He attended the Eckerty school and started his railroading career when he was 18 years old. He married Lala F. Ott at English, Ind., on March 18, 1914. He was a member of the Linden Methodist Church, the Linden American Legion post and the Linden Masonic Lodge. He served in the armed forces during World War I. The survivors include the wife; a son, Charles F. Sturm of New Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Nesbitt of New Richmond and Mrs. Vernon Ogden of East St. Louis, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Webster Ott of Caswell, Ind.; a brother, Walter Sturm of Danville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and five half-sisters. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Helms Funeral Chapel in Linden, with Rev. Willis Syphers in charge. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 2 p.m. Saturday. Masonic service will be held at the funeral chapel at 3 p.m. Saturday.
