Stump - John

John Stump was born in Kentucky May 8, 1820, and died July 18, 1903, aged eighty-two years, two months and nine days. He was a son of George Stump, who was a native of Georgia and moved to Indiana with his father in the year of 1828. After being a year and a half in Rush county he moved to Montgomery county, where he remained until his death. He first married Sibella, daughter of John Farley. After her death he took for his wife Elizabeth Hopkins, who died in 1902. Seven children were born, five of whom are living. They are Robert W., Mrs. Martha Payton, Mary and George and Rebecca twins, the former of whom is a farmer in Illinois and the latter the wife of William Grubbs, of the township. William died September 27, 1878. Also he leaves two brothers, Robert and William of Balhinch, and one sister, Mrs. Ann Tyler, of New Market. After a long and useful life he has passed to his reward. Uncle John was a good, true Christian man and was loved by all who knew him. His funeral was at the Baptist church in Balhinch; Interment was at the Weir Cemetery.
