Stover - Isaac

Isaac Stover was born in Carter County, Tenn in 1811. While but an infant his parents moved to Union County, Indiana. He lived there until 1831 when he came to Montgomery County where he has since lived. In his early boyhood days he taught school and singing school having a fine voice. He at on time practiced medicine.
When he married he made all of his own furniture and shoeware and done all his own blacksmithing. He at one time owned a carding mill, a flour mill and saw mill and for a number of years was a successful miller. He afterwards settled on the present homestead where he spent his married life. He was married in 1835 to Mary Irwin, she dying two years after marriage. He married his second wife, Nancy Gapen in 1843. To them nine children were born, of whom seven still survive and 14 grandchildren. His wife died in 1886. He was a member of the primitve Baptist Church and for a number of year was one of the deacons. A nobler and better man than Uncle Isaac Stover never lived. One sister, Mrs. Sarah Dunbar, mother of Mrs. W. Morgan is still living at the age of 88 years. She was by his bedside at the time of his death - kbz

Isaac Stover, aged eighty five years, died of Bright’s disease Sunday afternoon about three o’clock at his home north of the city. The funeral occurred from the residence Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by elder Oliphant. Interment was at Oak Hill. Mr. Stover was a pioneer resident of this country and a man highly respected by all. He leaves two sons and five daughters to mourn his death.
