Stockdale - Melissa Elliott - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

Mrs. Melissa Stockdale, relict of Jos. Stockdale, died Wednesday night at 11:15 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fullenwider, of Whitlock Avenue. She had been in failing health for some time. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock from the residence and this morning the body was taken to Springfield, Ill., for burial.  Melissa Elliott was born in Piqua, Ohio, November 5, 1818, and was there married to Joseph Stockdale March 24, 1840. Later they removed to Springfield, Ill., where they lived for many years. For some years Mrs. Stockdale has made her home with Mrs. Fullenwider and her son, Wallace Stockdale, of Springfield. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since her early youth and the quiet Christian life she led will long endear her memory to those who knew her.
