WINGATE — Mrs. Mary Orilla Stockdale, 85, a resident of Wingate since 1903, died at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday in her home at Wingate. She had been in failing health the past year and seriously ill one week with a heart ailment. Born March 12, 1872, at the Old Neal homestead near Mellott, Mrs. Stockdale was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Houser Neal. She married Henry Stockdale Oct. 23, 1891. The couple began housekeeping at Hillsboro. Mr. Stockdale died in 1920. They were married at Danville, Ill. Mrs. Stockdale was a member of the Wingate Christian Church and Wingate Unit No. 174 of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include three sons, Walter Stockdale of Durand, Ill., and Ernest and Gordon Stockdale, both of Wingate; five daughters, Mrs. Edith Foley and Mrs. Alta Utterback, both of Wingate, Mrs. Opal Yetter of Indianapolis, Mrs. Onetta Walsh of Durand, Ill., and Mrs. Hallie Palin of near Wingate; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Wingate Christian Church, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery near Hillsboro. Rev. C. H. Innis, pastor, will officiate. The body will lay in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. Friends may call at the family home
