Emmett C. Stout, 79, 406 S. Washington
St., retired Crawfordsville High School teacher, died at 7:13 this
morning in Culver Hospital.
A teacher in the Crawfordsville system
for 37 years in the science department, he started his teaching career
here in September 1921 and retired in June 1958.
Active in the Boy
Scout program, he was awarded the Silver Beaver, which is the highest
award a council can present to a volunteer worker. He served as
scoutmaster of First United Methodist Church Troop 332 during the
1940's.
He served as camp director for Camp Rotary several summers
and many of the present structures at the camp were built by Mr. Stout
and his camp staff. He was one of the originators of the idea for the
camp.
He graduated from Wabash College in 1917 and later attended Butler and Indiana universities.
He served in the armed forces during World War I.
Mr. Stout was Past Master of Blue Lodge and Past Patron of OES at Crawfordsville.
Born
Dec. 19, 1892, at Kendallville, he was the son of Oliver and Katherine
Stout. He married Blanche Warbritton Feb. 11, 1932, at Crawfordsville.
She survives.
Another survivor is his sister, Mrs. James Gordon of Liberty Chapel.
Services
will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with Rev. Frank
Little officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may
call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
