Waynetown, Feb 28 -- James A. STOCKDALE, 73, died suddenly here this morning at 8 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Skaggs. Mr. Stockdale had been in failing health for some time but apparently had been no worse recently. He arose at his usual hour Saturday morning and went to the home of a son, Truman Stockdale, a few doors up the street where he ate breakfast. A short time later he went back to the home of his daughter, where he had been living for some time and lay down. Mrs. Skaggs, sensing that all was not well with her father ran across the street to the home of a neighbor where a physician was making a call. The physician hurried to the Skaggs home but when he arrived Mr. Stockdale was dead. The deceased was born in Ky on Feb 21, 1838, the son of John and Mary Groves Stockdale. He was married March 19, 1880, to Lydia E. Fouts, whose death occurred on Dec. 22, 1914. Mr. Stockdale was a member of the Snyder's Chapel Church. The survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Skaggs and Mrs. Lilly Keyes of Lebanon; two sons, Truman and Charles, both of Waynetown; two brothers, Arlie Stockdale of Indianapolis and John M. Stockdale of Ewing, Ky; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Caldwell of Long Beach, California and several other relatives. The funeral services will be held at the Waynetown Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. CR Brown. Burial will take place in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
