Roy O. Stites, 57, Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. employe for 33 years, died suddenly Saturday morning of a heart attack at his home, 811 Cottage Ave.
Stites was a past president of Crawfordsville Aerie 1005 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and had long been active in the lodge. In his earlier years, he was an outstanding amateur boxer and competed in Golden Glove tournaments.
Born No. 17, 1908, in Putnam County, he was the son of Charles and Maude Martin Stites. He was first married in 1934 to Fay Hunt. Following her death, he was married in 1947 to Betty Lewis.
The survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Johnson of Indianapolis and Mrs. Janet Hobson of Gas City; four brothers, Eldon Stites of Crawfordsville, Joe Stites of Sanford, Fla., Ralph Stites of Waynetown and Henry Stites of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Lancaster and Mrs. Bertha Breedlove, both of Crawfordsville, and six grandchildren.
A son, Larry Wayne, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home here with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Interment will be in Clinton Falls Cemetery in Putnam County. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home. --- typed by Walt W
