Stine - Herbert
Source: Crawfordsville Review 11 June 1898 p 7
About 4 o’clock last Saturday afternoon Herbert Stine was drowned in Sugar Creek in what is known as rock dam west of the Sperry bridge. The unfortunate young man was 20 years old, the son of John Stine who resides on the Rosebro farm near the scene of the accident. Herbert, together with his two brothers, went to the creek to bathe. It seems that the young man was unable to swim and when he went into the water he stepped into a hole some 12’ deep and immediately sank. The brothers attempted to rescue him but all in vain. Assistance was quickly summoned but it was more than an hour before the body was recovered. The parents of the unfortunate lady were present when the body was found and their screams could be heard for blocks and their grief was most pitiful to behold. The funeral occurred Monday. - kbz
