Stine - Everett
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 10 June 1898
Brief mention was made in The Journal on Saturday of the drowning of Everett Stine in Sugar Creek. The accident occurred about four o’clock in the old rock dam where so many similar fatalities have occurred in times past. The unfortunate lad was the nineteen year old son of John Stine, who resides on the old Rosebro place on the hill just above the scene of the accident. Everett with his brother had gone to the creek to bathe and it seems that he could not swim. He went into the water and was so unfortunate as to come to an ugly “step off” and was plunged from water about four feet deep into a twelve foot hole. His brother was unable to help him and he was drowned. Assistance was quickly summoned and the body was finally rescued, it being found and raised by Sam Cole. The parents of the victim were simply prostrated by the disaster and their grief was pitiful to behold. The funeral took place today.
