Darlington, Ind Feb 17 - Frank R. Stewart whose sudden death on Thursday at 1 p.m. at this place gave to his family such a shock as well as to the town and community was a man among men, a genial kind hearted business man, honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men. He leaves a host of friends among his associates. As a stock buyer and shipper he has dealt with the farmers of this county, Clinton and Boone, paying out vast sums of money during the last 15 years and he passed on without leaving an enemy. He was the son of Henry and Emma Stewart and was born in Clinton County 45 years ago where he spent his life until about 12 years ago he came to Darlington where he has since resided. During the year 1892 he married Miss Emma Miller, daughter of Samuel T. Miller living at that time four miles south of Darlington. To this union three children were born: Reid, Noble and Ester, the baby. During his residence here he has been a member of the town board of trustees for many years. He was always careful and conscientious in looking after the welfare of the town and was ready at all times to assist in any good work for its welfare. He was a staunch Republican from principle, and like all things else, he worked at it and deeply regretted the appeal of the local option law. He was a member of the Methodist Church and died in the full belief of the Great Beyond. A year ago his health failed him and since then his heart has troubled him but he kept at his work never complaining, always jovial and active. Since the death of his mother at his home here 3 weeks ago he never seemed just the same; was more reticient and less inclined to talk of his own illness. He was on the street Tuesday and Wednesday and was about the house on Thursday until a few minutes before his death. While seated in his chair his head was seen to drop and kind friends laid him on his bed where he soon breathed his last. Besides his wife and three children, he leaves three brothers, Sant and Charlie of Indianapolis and Alva of Lafayette. Darlington and the surrounding community will miss Frank Stewart but in business no one will miss him more than his partner, J.C. Hunt, who has been associated with him in the stock and meat business for the last 12 years. A good man has gone - typed by kbz
