MELLOTT-- Jesse C. Stephens, 71, of Mellott, was fatally stricken by a heart attack in front of the Waymire Grocery here Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health for the last two years. He was born May 16, 1894, the son of James A. and Mary Ann Thompson Stephens of Mellott. For many years he lived with his brother, Harry, with whom he served as co-caretaker for the past 15 years of the Dry Run Cemetery. Prior to that he had been a farmer and fence-erector in the Mellott area. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a military policeman overseas between 1917 and 1919. He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ. Surviving is the brother, Harry, and nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Purnell and Ocie Stephens, and two brothers, Carl and Clyde, preceded him in death. Services will be at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Charles Kraft officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Dry Run Cemetery. --typed by Walt W
