WINGATE — Edgar W. Steele, 83, former Elmdale businessman, died at 9:50 a. m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, where he had been a heart patient since Dec. 14. He became ill while at the home of a son, Edgar N. Steele of Rt. 1 Greencastle. Mr. Steele was the son of John William and Jane Fletcher Steele and was born near Waynetown April 9, 1876. He was married to Dottie Utterback Oct. 2, 1919 at Elmdale. He was a blacksmith and for several years owned and operated a grocery store at Elmdale. At the time of his retirement he was employed at the Alcoa plant at Lafayette. Mr. Steele was a member of the old Baptist Church at Elmdale. Surviving besides the widow and the son near Greencastle are nine other children, Byron and Robert Eugene of Columbus, Ohio, William A. of Evansville, Elmer L. of Lafayette, Cecil A. of Kingman, John W. in the U. S. Navy, Mrs. Edna Mills of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Lillie Irene Overman of Huntington and Ida Maxine Steele of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sexton of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Clara Cox of Veedersburg, and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services are announced for 2 p. m. Thursday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, where friends may call after 2 p. m. Wednesday. Rev. Nesbitt will officiate and burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery
