After a long and painful illness William S. Steele died at 6 o'clock on last Saturday evening at his residence, corner of Washington and College Streets. His funeral was on Monday morning by Eld. M.M. VanCleave and the remains were interred at Oak Hill. Mr. Steele was born in Bath County, Kentucky January 24, 1800. In 1827 he came to this county and settled near Yountsville. He quit farm life and came to Crawfordsville to live quietly at his ease in 1870. He was a fine citizen, a good husband and loving father. He was a believer in the Universalist faith. His wife was pure and beautiful throughout. He leaves three living children: Jacob and J.S. Steele and Mrs. Anna McClure of Ripley Township. - transcribed by kbz
