Covington - William E. Starkey, 73, a former ovington businessman, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been in failing helath the past 7 years. Mr. Starkey owned an automobile dealership in Covington from 1945-1959. Previously he was owner and operator of the Union Stockyards at Danville from 1928-1944. He was a member of Cates United Methodist Church and Tippecanoe Lodge 792 F&AM of Lafayette. He was also a member of Modern Woodmen of America. He was born October 20, 1900 at Cates, a son of Joseph and Emaline Barker Starkey. A former resident of Danville and Cates, he had resided in the Covington area since 1939. For the past 5 years he resided with his sister Viola in Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and half brother. He is survived by a son, Eston E. Starkey of Covington; three sisters, Mrs. Homer P (Viola) Howard of Covington; Mrs. Clarence (Lola) Pugh of Tarpon Springs, Fla and Mrs. Elbert E. (Margaret) Smith of Attica; a brother J. Bryant Starkey of Covington and half sister, Mrs. Gertie Abernathy of Covington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Luther Page. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
