STONE BLUFF -- Sallie L. Starkey, 98, formely of Stonebluff & Covington died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at Country Care Nursing Home, Williamsport. Mrs. Starkey had been a school teacher, had operated a grocery store in Stonebluff and had served as the Van Buren Township Trustee. Hermemberships included the Stonebluff United Meth Church, the Order of the Eastern Star of Covington, the Fountain County Home Econic Club, the Van Buren Birthday Club and the Republic party in which she was active for many years. She was born in Tangier, IN Dec 22, 1899 to Thomas and Rosetta Gilkey Brown. She married Harry R. Starkey April 10, 1920 in Parke County. He died in 1955. Surv are 3 sons, Harry R of Danville IL William E of Hillsboro and Samuel Blayne of Covington; two daughters, Mrs. Lex (Betty) Templeton of South Bend. Mrs Jayne (William) Elliot of COvington; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joe T; a daughter Bobby Brimbury and 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Fri at Dickerson Funeral home at Veedersburg with the Rev. Paul Ziebert officiating. Burial will be in Osborne Priarie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to the Stonebluff United Methodist Church and the Covington Senior Citizen organization.
