Staniford, Ella Grantham

Ladoga, Jan 20 – Mrs. Ella Staniford, a prominent nurse of this place was found dead by her brother, James Grantham at the home of Mrs. Brothers, whom she had been nursing. She was found kneeling by a chair in her night dress where she had been asphyxiated by gas which was escaping from the baseburner. Mrs. Brothers was also in a very critical condition. Mrs. Staniford was born and reared in this community the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Grantham. She was 66 years old at the time of her death. She married James Staniford in 1876 who died in 1908. She spent one year in Mississippi but outside of this had lived all her life in this neighborhood. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was liked by many of this community. She was the mother of two children, a daughter who died in infancy and a son, Frank Staniford living in Norfolk, W Va. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lottie Stevens, Indianapolis and four brothers, Dr. Chas. Grantham, Crawfordsville; Henry Grantham, Stockwell; Thomas Grantham, New Richmond; and James Grantham, Ladoga. The body was taken to the home of her brother, James, here. - kbz
