Spillman - Ira

Ira Spillman was born in Parke county, Ind, January 22, 1832.  He was married to Rebecca Lyons in 1871;  died of heart trouble October 4, 1902.  Three sons were born to them, viz; Frank and Theodore of this city, and Mark, of Kokomo.  He never united with any church, but was honest, quiet unassuming man, a good neighbor and a most excellent husband and father.  His wife died fifteen years ago and since that time his example as a father has been worthy of emulation.  He kept house, often doing the work himself in order to keep his boys with him and certainly no sons were ever more devoted to a father than were they.  Nothing was ever left undone that would add to his comfort.  More men like uncle Ira would make the world better.  He was an honored member of the Odd Fellow lodge and also of the G.A.R.  These orders had charge of the funeral which occurred at 2:30 this afternoon.  Rev. Henry L. Nave officiated.  The interment was by the side of his loved wife in the Odd Fellows cemetery. – thanks to Kim H
