Spencer - Nancy Alexander

Mrs. Nancy Spencer, aged ninety-nine years and some months, died Monday at the home of her son, Washington Spencer, two and a half miles southwest of Waveland, in Brown township. She was one of the oldest in habitants of the county in point of residence, and the oldest in years. She has numerous descendants in Montgomery and Putnam counties. Until vary recently she was in the full possession of all her faculties and conversed interestingly on affairs connected with the war of 1812, which she remembered as a little girl. She was a native of Kentucky.

Mrs. Nancy Spencer died at the home of her son, GW Spencer, West of town, Monday, Feb 11. Death resulted from extreme old age she being past 99. The funeral services were conducted by Rev JC Burkhardt after which the interment took place at the family Cemetery. The attendance was large. Nancy Alexander was born in Mason Co KY Nov 28, 1801. She married John Spencer March 9, 1817. They lived in Fleming Co KY until 1834 when they came to Parke Co IN and settled on the farm now occupied by GW Spencer. To them was b. 11 children of whom 3 are living: Mrs. Spencer died April 9 1867 age 73, since which time Mrs. Spencer has made her home with her youngest son, GW Spencer. She joined the Christian Church nearly 60 years ago under the pastorate of Rev Mr. Michaels. There were no Churches in the neighborhood at the time and the services were held at the homes of the members. The surviving children are George W. Spencer, Milligan, Mrs. Amanda Bloomfield, and Mrs. Ellen Patton, Elmdale. - kbz
