Gilbert W. Spencer 77 Kingman funeral director and oldest businesman in lengh of service d. at 8:40 a.m. wed at the home of his dau, Mrs. Geraldine Moore in Kingman, he had been ill since Monday with a heart
ailment. Mr. Spencer was born in Harveysburg In Sept 6, 1877 son of Charles M and Sylvina Sowers Spencer. His family moved to Kingman in 1885 when the village of Harveysburg was moved to this town. He later
became associated with his father in the undertaking business and continued here unti his death. He attended Harveyburg and Kingman school and Indiana Embalming College at Indianapolis. He was first married to Gertrude Wilkey in 1899 who died in 1905. They had two children, Geraldine at whose home he died and a son, Worth who died in infnacy. He married Daisy Hartman in 1908, who survives. Mr. Spencer was a member of the Kingman Methodist Church. Masonic Lodge and had received his 50-year pin in the lodge this year. He also belonged to the OES Past Master Club, Commandery of Advance Masonry at Crawfordsville; Wallace Low 12 Club and Indiana Funeral Directors Assoc. Surviving are the wife and daughter and a sister, Mrs. Augusta Black of Wewoka, Ok and a grandson. Two brothers, William and Oscar preceded him in death. The body is at the home of the daughter in Kingman. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kingman Methodist Church with the Rev Sam Phlipp,s minister officiating. Burial in Rush Creek. The Fishero Funeral Home is in charge. --- kbz
