Spencer - Bertha Canine

Mrs. Allen R. Spencer, 74, well known Waveland resident died in her home Sunday night October 23 at 7:30 o'clock. She had been in failing health for 3 years. Born January 10, 1875 near Waveland she was the daughter of Ralph and Margaret McCord Canine. She married Allen R. Spencer at the old Canine farm north of Waveland April 8, 1903. Mr. Spencer preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Waveland Christian Church and was past regent of the Dorothy Q Chapter, DAR in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Spencer was a life long residen in the Waveland community and will be sadly missed by all. Surviving are four nephews: Alonzo Deere, Waveland; Irvine Deere, Dalls, Tx; Brig. Gen. Ralph J. Canine, US Army of occupation in Germany and Preston Canine, Beford and two nieces, Mrs. Joe Rice, Waynetown; Mrs. Margaret Canine, Terre Haute and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edwin Canine of Terre Haute. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Waveland Christian Church, Rev. Carl Osborne, pastor officiated. Interment was made in the Old Union Cemetery. -- kbz
