NEW RICHMOND — Lawrence (Slim) Spear, 69, of New Richmond, died Wednesday night at Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He had been in failing health for several years and hospitalized three days before his death. He had lived at various times in the Wingate and New Richmond community since 1916. He was a veteran of World War I when he served in the U. S. Army. He was a farm laborer most of his adult life. Born Sept. 9, 1895, in Monroe County, Ky., he was the son of William Black and Sarah Jane Head Spear. He was never married. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include two brothers, George Spear and Clyde Spear, both of Frankfort; two nieces, and a nephew. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Helms Funeral Chapel in Linden. Rev. Willis Syphers of Linden will officiate. Burial will be in the New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
