NEW RICHMOND — Benjamin Martin Sparby, 56, of New Richmond, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. Mr. Sparby owned the Interstate Enco Service on Indiana 32 at Interstate 74. He worked for Peerless Wire Goods in Lafayette for several years prior to opening his service station. He was a member of the Potato Creek United Methodist Church. He lived most of his life in the Montgomery County area. He was educated at the old Bowers High School. Born Jan. 10, 1915, at Ortonville, Minn., he was the son of Arney and Beatrice Hayes Sparby. He was married Sept. 10, 1933, to Martha Graham. The widow survives. Also surviving are two sons, James Sparby of Crawfordsville and Tracy Sparby of New Richmond; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Byrd of Indianapolis, and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Sparby was preceded in death by a son, Wayne, in 1942, and a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Abston, in 1960. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. Rev. Robert Shotts will officiate. Burial will be in Crawfordsville's Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
