Tom Sowers, who had the blacksmith shop at the corner of Greene & Cross Sts. for a number of years, and afterwards lived in the Byron neighborhood, died on Monday morning, after suffering a paralytic stroke the evening before. He has been in poor health for some time. He and his wife and his son, Marney and his wife, were making their home in Decatur, Illinois. Roy Sowers and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Sowers went to Decatur on Monday. Funeral services were held at the Valley, Ill. Lutheran church on Wednesday. Valley was the original home of the Sowers family. Mr. Sowers was a good workman and was well liked. He and Elijah Myers put in machinery to make small wood novelties where the sawmill now stands. They did quite well for a time. After moving away from Waveland, Mr. Sowers followed his trade as long as his health permitted. -- kbz
